    Having followed healthcare for 12 years before I began covering SAP, the medical field strikes me as an interesting study in business analytics. I wonder what the leading KPIs are: Profits? Average length of stay? Rate of hospital-acquired infections? Joint Commission accreditation results? Patient-to-staff ratios? Fundraising?

    It must be a challenge to track BI in a meaningful way with so many competing interests and in such a heavily regulated industry.
